T&L AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

With over 400 people in attendance at the 2009 Queensland Supply Chain & Logistics Conference dinner the SCLAA, in conjunction with the Australian Logistics Council, APICS, CIPSA, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Strategix Training Group announced the winners of the 2009 T&L Industry Development Awards for Queensland.

Queensland T&L Industry Futures Award, was presented by Nathanael Green, Director, Strategix Training Group to the company, institution or organisation with the best proven record in providing people with an entry to, and pathway in, the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics Industries. This included, but was not limited to, education or training (formal or in-house), implementing flexible work practices, workforce development and support in career progression.

THE 2009 T&L INDUSTRY FUTURES AWARD WINNER IS THE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS WORKFORCE ADVISORY GROUP

The Transport & Logistics Workforce Advisory Group (TLWAG) Capability Program was born in late 2006 by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) to create sustainable, workable solutions for the industry’s skills and labour shortage in Queensland. The purpose of the Transport and Logistics Workforce Advisory Group (TLWAG) is to support the government and industry in identifying current and future workforce capability challenges. The group also provides advice through Queensland Transport to the Department of Education Training and the Arts on industry priorities for government investment in education and training.

The inaugural Queensland T&L Experience Pays Awards, (Under ten years and over ten years categories), were presented by Don Bletchley General Manager (Office of the Director- General), Dept of Transport & Main Roads to provide incentive and recognition for mature-age individuals working in the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics industries.

THE 2009 WINNER IN THE T&L EXPERIENCE PAYS UNDER TEN YEARS CATEGORY IS BILL POTTER

Bill Potter is NQX’s National Learning & Development Manager. Bill’s goal for the NQX College is to provide NQX Freight Systems with the capability to establish the safest work environment possible by offering the most experienced employees at NQX with qualifications as National Trainers & Assessors.

Bill’s concept will also allow experienced workers at NQX with the capability to manage the development of skills and knowledge in all regional depots across Australia; 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. Bill has been a strong supporter of the changing culture in T&L to recognise training as a critical part of the future to ensure the long-term sustainability of our industry.

THE 2009 WINNER IN THE T&L EXPERIENCE PAYS OVER TEN YEARS CATEGORY IS PETER THOMPSON

Peter Thompson is the Queensland State Manager for Kagan Logistics. Peter joined Kagan Logistics as the Warehouse Manager. After redefining the warehouse processes and staffing, he was promoted to State Manager and opened a second warehouse in Hemmant. Due to Peter’s efforts, Kagan Logistics Qld received a high commendation for Training and Development at the 2008 Australian Supply Chain & Logistics Awards. Peter has a long history of operational achievement within the industry and is an extremely supportive and active participant in a range of industry groups, associations and initiatives, including member of the Transport and Storage, Industry Sector Standing Committee for the board of Workplace Health and Safety Qld, board member of the Qld Multimodal Freight Council (formerly the Sea Freight Council), company secretary and treasurer of Qld Supply Chain & Logistics Conference and committee member of SCLAA Qld.

The T&L Future Leaders Awards, was presented by Don Bletchley General Manager (Office of the Director- General), Dept of Transport & Main Roads to provide incentive and recognition for individuals working in Transport, Supply Chain & Logistics industries who are planning a career path within the Industry.

Mr Bletchley awarded a HIGH COMMENDATION to Jodie Collie, Group Purchasing Officer, Collins Food Group.

THE 2009 T&L FUTURE LEADERS AWARD WINNER IS GEORGINA VUKSANOVIC

Georgina Vuksanovic is a talented, energetic and enthusiastic future leader of our industry. For her short career, Georgina has a trail of praise and achievement from previous employers. More recently, Georgina took up a position of Distribution Supervisor in the Logistics team of Mrs Crocket’s Kitchen at their Hemmant warehouse. With Georgina joining the company in November she was thrown right in the thick of it. Georgina rose to the occasion and was a great support to the Logistics team. Once Christmas was over Georgina focused on areas of her role that need attention. Proof of Delivery retrieval was a major issue with a substantial amount involved. In a short period of time Georgina reduced the outstanding dollar amount to a manageable level. She has continued to produce excellent results from her work. She is an asset to the Mrs Crocket’s Kitchen team.

All finalists, High Commendations and Winners will be automatically entered in to the SCLAA Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards which will be held in Melbourne in November.
